Sam Benger | Founder, Director

Sam Benger is a Hingham, Massachusetts native, a 2018 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, a lifetime athlete, a Type One diabetic, and is the Founder of Game Plan T1D.

Sam was diagnosed at age 5 with Type One Diabetes (T1D). Over the past 18 years as a result of living an active and athletic lifestyle, eating healthy foods, and seeking support from family, friends, and doctors, Sam has built a system of diabetes management that works for him.  Empowered by this control, Sam chased his athletic dreams. This effort culminated most recently in an attempt to reach the NFL level after a successful college football career (click here for video) at Carnegie Mellon in which Sam led the nation in rushing yards in 2015, was a 2-time All-American and Academic All-American, and a 2017 finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy (Top Football Scholar-Athlete in the Nation).

Now, Sam has turned his efforts to connecting with other Type One diabetics, sharing stories of health and success, and empowering greater access to affordable diabetes care.
